I realized I was going to have to find a place to live while in Manhattan. A hotel for an entire month was out of my budget. Sharing an apartment with a total stranger didn’t appeal to me. I don’t camp and I most assuredly wasn’t going to stay at a hostel.
I combed through Craigslist which was scammy and sketchy.
It started to get really scary as I began crossing things off my to-do list and one of the biggies - a place to live - had yet to be found. Technology to the rescue!!!
I hunted through two great apps: VRBO and AirBnB. Through AirBnB, I found a great apartment in the upper west side, and I had a most pleasant online exchange with the apartment owner. The app was easy to set up & very user friendly. I paid through the app, it was completely on the up-and-up, and very efficient. I'm renting an entire apartment for my NYC mini-sabbatical - all 300 square feet of it. (PS - my rental was for more than 30 days so there was no violation of NYC ordinances.) New Crisis - light bult goes off in my head: Uh-oh – my shoes are not going to fit into this space!
