As another year draws to an end, I was thinking about the stories of 2014. It was a gloomy year – maybe they all are but as I grow older maybe I focus more on the serious ones. I was thinking back to Ukraine, Crimea & Russia; Airline disasters (vanished MH370, shot down MH17, AirAsia); Immigration; Ebola; Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice; ISIS; Politics. Politics is everywhere. On the basketball court #icantbreathe. In fashion. Take Chirlane McCray. Mad props to Ms. McCray. When the British Royals came to NYC, First Lady McCray wore a striking fushia-colored coat to greet Duchess Kate Middleton. Yet, it wasn’t just a coat. It was a Nanette Lepore-designed coat, created and manufactured in the garment district of New York City. And, Kate? While sitting courtside watching the Brooklyn Nets take on LeBron & the Cavs, she sported a coat by American designer, Tory Burch, and California- based JBrand jeans. I think these choices are carefully thought out selections which make a political statement. Big ups.
