I did a long run on a windy Sunday along the Hudson River. There is a fabulous greenway system all over the City. I ran all of what is known as the "Cherry Walk" aptly named for the
cherry trees strung along the route. I continued on up to the George Washington Bridge -- what a sight. It's jaw dropping from below. It's mammoth. There is an adorable tiny
lighthouse under the bridge built in 1880. The lighthouse has a good history
& was in actual use for a while then it was lovingly saved from the
scrapheap. Read more here: http://www.historichousetrust.org.
A couple of mornings later, I ran in Riverside Park– the sun glinting off the River was beautiful. The residential buildings along Riverside Drive are handsome and eye-pleasing. There is a wide, mature tree-laden pedestrian boulevard overlooking the River. I could almost see bustled-up ladies stolling with their parasols, arm in arm with bespoke-suited escorts. I passed an impressive gothic cathedral – the Riverside Church – very Duke Chapelesque. Folks were bustling their kids to school and there was quiet purpose in the neighborhood. This
has become my go-to run route. It’s a pleasant beginning to a usually hectic day.
After a visit to my local cash-only bodega coffee shop, I am back to the books reading about patented seams.
